The Loudoun County Boys Varsity Basketball couldn't overcome a poor shooting night as they fell to the first place Tuscarora Huskies by a final score of 44-40. It was a nearly identical score to the first time these two teams played on January 3 when the Huskies won 44-37.
The game started with an administrative technical foul due to a Tuscarora player dunking during warm-ups. Jack West calmly hit the two free throws, and then proceeded to score the next six points as the Captains jumped out to an 8-0 lead. Tuscarora responded with 10 straight points and led 12-9 at the end of the first quarter. The game was tied 18-18 at halftime, and 30-30 at the end of the third quarter. Tuscarora outscored the Captains 14-10 in the fourth quarter to pick up their 10th straight win and remain undefeated in district play.
West finished with 16 points, while Joey Fitzpatrick with 9 points and 13 rebounds. Braxton Griffin had 5 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists. Johnny Penberthy had 3 points and 3 rebounds, while Zach Hensch had 3 points. Ryan Colavita had 2 points and 3 rebounds, and Brady Solomon had 2 points.
The loss drops the Captains' record to 13-5 overall, 9-2 in the Dulles District (with both losses coming at the hands of the Huskies), and the loss also ended their seven-game winning streak. The Captains have four regular season games remaining, the next of which is on Tuesday, January 31 at home against the Loudoun Valley Vikings.
